What was meant to be the happiest moment of their lives ended in tragedy when American tourist Steven Weber drowned while proposing to his girlfriend, Kenesha Antoine, underwater at a luxury resort in Zanzibar.
Steven had planned a unique proposal in the resort’s famous underwater room, swimming up to the glass window with a handwritten note asking Kenesha to marry him. He even held up a ring as she joyfully filmed the moment. But heartbreak followed—Steven never resurfaced.
Kenesha later shared the video and her grief on social media: “You never got to hear my answer: Yes! A million times yes!” she wrote. “The best day of our lives turned into the worst in the cruelest twist of fate.”
She described Steven as a bright, joyful soul who made everyone laugh and loved her deeply. Just days before, he had called their getaway a “once-in-a-lifetime” experience.
The resort confirmed the drowning and local police are investigating. The couple had been staying in a $1,700-a-night underwater suite surrounded by crystal-clear waters—now forever linked to a tragic love story.
