Teen sentenced to life in prison for murder of 10-year-old girl

BRIGHTON, Colo. — Aidan Zellmer, 17, has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 40 years for the killing of 10-year-old Kiaya Campbell.

Zellmer, charged as an adult, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder after deliberation as part of a plea deal. The tragic crime occurred on June 7, 2017, when Kiaya left her father’s home with Zellmer to go to a shopping center.

The case has been a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating impact of violent crime on families and communities.
