While cleaning a garden, Craig Mcgettrick and a coworker moved an old mattress and discovered five tiny animals beneath it. Believing they were abandoned puppies, Craig took photos and brought them to a nearby animal shelter for care.
But a week later, everything changed.
A woman from a fox rescue group saw Craig’s photos online and reached out. “Are you sure those aren’t fox cubs?” she asked. Once experts reviewed the pictures, it became clear—they were indeed baby foxes, not puppies.
The mattress had actually been a makeshift den, likely chosen by the mother fox to keep her young safe.
To reunite the cubs with their mom, rescuers placed them back in the same garden spot. Moments later, to everyone’s amazement, the mother fox returned, inspected the box, and quickly carried her cubs to safety—proving once again that nature knows best.
