“She loved blue, she loved music… and she loved him” — Tragedy in Texas floods claims 8-year-old Sarah Marsh, a little girl whose heart beat to Jelly Roll’s songs

Mountain Brook, Alabama is wrapped in blue ribbons, honoring 8-year-old Sarah Marsh—a joyful soul with a big heart and a love for the color blue. Sarah tragically lost her life in the July 4 Texas flash floods while attending Camp Mystic.

Just weeks away from starting third grade, Sarah was known as “the light in every room.” She adored music, especially Jelly Roll, and could sing his song “Save Me” with heart and soul. “She said he sang like people felt,” her mother said. “That’s how she wanted to sing too.”

Now her voice is gone, but her spirit remains. The community has stepped up with meals, support, and blue ribbons tied to every post and tree. Her family, heartbroken, called it a loss no parent is ever ready for.

Sarah wasn’t just a victim—she was a daughter, a friend, a singer full of love and light. And though she’s gone, her song plays on in every act of kindness done in her name.
