Loren Schauers, a 19-year-old from Montana, miraculously survived a horrific accident in 2019 after a forklift he was driving fell off a bridge and crushed the lower half of his body and one arm.
To save his life, doctors performed a rare hemicorporectomy—a drastic surgery that involved amputating everything below his waist. Loren also lost part of his arm in the incident.
Despite the trauma, Loren has remained open about his journey. Alongside his wife Sabia, he shares his experience on YouTube, answering questions about life post-accident, including how he uses the bathroom. He explained he has a colostomy and nephrostomy tubes that allow waste to exit his body into external bags.
Loren also spoke candidly about how some friendships changed after the accident. While a few friends became distant, others stepped up—and he says having Sabia is more than enough.
Remarkably, Loren stayed conscious through the entire ordeal and remembers seeing parts of his own body blown apart. He’s since shared a powerful image from that day, showing himself trapped under the forklift.
His story continues to inspire others, showing resilience in the face of unimaginable loss.
