What was meant to be a carefree July 4th weekend became a heartbreaking nightmare for families in Hunt, Texas. Sudden flash floods along the Guadalupe River swept through Camp Mystic and nearby cabins, claiming the lives of several young girls — each full of life, love, and promise.
Among the victims were 8-year-old twins Hanna and Rebecca Lawrence. Their sister Harper survived, but the loss has devastated their family — especially their grandfather, David Lawrence Jr., a passionate advocate for children’s education.
Also lost were best friends Eloise Peck and Lila Bonner, both 8. A photo of the two smiling together now serves as a heartbreaking symbol of the innocence taken too soon.
In nearby Casa Bonita, sisters Blair and Brooke Harber, 13 and 11, were found holding hands after being swept away. Just hours earlier, Brooke had sent a final text: “I love you.” Their grandparents remain missing.
These girls brought joy, kindness, and faith into the world. Though their time was brief, their love endures — reminding us to hold our own families closer and never take a single moment for granted. 💔
