Rescuers in Indonesia are racing against time to save 26-year-old Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins, who has been trapped for three days in the crater of Mount Rinjani, an active volcano on Lombok Island.
Juliana fell from a cliff while hiking with a group on Saturday, 21 June. Her screams were heard, and drone footage later confirmed she was alive—but when rescuers reached the area, she was nowhere to be found. She was finally relocated today (23 June), but still remains stranded without food, water, or warm clothing.
Her family, deeply worried, has launched a social media campaign to spread awareness. “We don’t know her condition,” they said. “She’s been out there for three days in the cold.”
Efforts to reach her have been delayed by poor weather and dangerous terrain. At one point, rescuers had to turn back after advancing just 250 meters down the crater.
The trail she fell from reportedly remains open, drawing criticism from her family. The trekking company involved and Mount Rinjani National Park have both issued statements, urging caution and hoping for a safe rescue.
Brazilian officials, including the ambassador, are now directly involved in overseeing the rescue.
Search teams, including experienced mountaineers, are still battling the harsh conditions—hoping they can bring Juliana home alive.
