A heartbreaking accident on Sunday morning, July 16, has left the Cariri region in mourning after an entire family lost their lives on the CE-060 highway, between Caririaçu and Juazeiro do Norte.
Hérida Nascimento da Silva, Sebastião Cícero Gomes, and their 3-year-old son Miguel were traveling from Várzea Alegre to Juazeiro do Norte for a scheduled surgery for little Miguel—a trip filled with hope that tragically ended in sorrow.
Around 7 a.m., their vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a five-meter-deep stream near Sítio Piripiri. The difficult rescue and depth of the water contributed to the devastating outcome.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, raising concerns about the condition of the road and the safety of drivers. The loss has struck a deep chord across the community, reminding many of life’s fragile and unpredictable nature.
