When little Qibao was born in southern China, large dark moles covered his scalp — a rare condition called congenital naevus. To remove them, doctors first had to stretch the skin on his head, leaving him with two balloon-like expanders that drew cruel taunts and the nickname “Mickey Mouse.”
His mother, Ms. Chen, admits the treatment was heartbreaking, but she refused to give up. “We wiped away our tears and moved on,” she said.
Five months later, surgery was a complete success. The moles were gone, and Qibao — now smiling and playing in the hospital nursery — had captured the hearts of thousands online.
Congenital naevus affects about 1% of newborns, but severe cases like Qibao’s are rare. His journey is now being celebrated as a story of medical progress, a mother’s love, and a little boy’s extraordinary courage.
