What should have been the beginning of a beautiful life together ended in unthinkable betrayal and murder. On May 20, 2025, newlyweds Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi traveled to the scenic hills of Shillong, India, for their honeymoon. Days later, Raja’s body was found in a gorge—decomposed, stripped of identification, and missing his wedding ring.
What at first looked like a tragic accident quickly unraveled into a shocking murder plot. Police say Sonam, far from being a grieving widow, was the mastermind behind her husband’s death.
According to investigators, Sonam was having an affair with Raj Kushwaha and convinced him to help kill Raja. She allegedly promised money and recruited three more men—Vishal Singh, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput—to carry out the plan. GPS and phone records showed Sonam had been tracking and sharing Raja’s movements in the days leading up to his death.
Between May 23 and 24, Raja was likely lured or ambushed, then pushed into a steep ravine where his body remained for days.
But the betrayal didn’t stop there. After Raja’s murder, Sonam allegedly turned on Raj Kushwaha too. Authorities discovered she had secretly been involved with yet another man and was planning to eliminate Raj as well.
Sonam was arrested on June 8. Digital evidence, text messages, and her own confession laid bare the full extent of the conspiracy: a chilling mix of manipulation, greed, and emotional control.
Now facing charges of murder, conspiracy, and attempted murder, Sonam and her alleged accomplices are expected to go on trial later this year.
This tragic case has sparked national outrage—and served as a grim reminder that appearances can be deceiving. What started as a honeymoon ended in horror, exposing a web of lies and the deadly consequences of betrayal.
