A community is in shock after a 2-year-old girl was critically injured when her 7-year-old brother allegedly placed her inside an oven and turned it on. The children had been left home alone in their apartment when neighbors heard screams and called 911. Emergency crews rushed in to find the toddler with severe burns; she remains in critical but stable condition.

Authorities say the young boy appeared scared and confused, and may not have understood the consequences of his actions. Investigators are exploring whether he was mimicking something he saw online or on TV.

“This is one of the most heartbreaking cases I’ve seen,” said a first responder. “That little girl is lucky to be alive.”

Child psychologists stress that kids this age lack the ability to grasp real danger. “Without supervision, their curiosity can turn deadly,” said Dr. Michelle Ramos.

The children’s mother, who left them unsupervised, is now under investigation for negligence and may face criminal charges. Neighbors reported past concerns, saying the boy was often seen wandering alone.
