New Jersey — Six-year-old Lucy Morgan tragically died in what her family describes as a freak accident during a game of badminton while on vacation in Maine.
On June 1, Lucy was playing outside with her siblings when part of a badminton racket broke and struck her in the skull. The metal shaft pierced her head, causing a critical brain injury. Her father, Jesse Morgan, said the accident happened in an instant during what had been a joyful, peaceful morning by the lake.
Despite emergency surgeries and prayers for a miracle, Lucy passed away surrounded by her family just days later. Her father, a pastor, shared their grief and hope through his blog, revealing how their faith carried them through unbearable pain. Just weeks before her death, Lucy had asked her mother how to be “saved” and had filled her prayer journal with drawings — including one believed to depict Mary and Martha weeping over Lazarus.
“She was our bright, joyful Lucy-goose,” Jesse wrote. “We can’t imagine life without her.”
Lucy’s funeral was held on June 15 and live-streamed for those who couldn’t attend. A GoFundMe in her honor has raised over $120,000 to support the family during this unimaginable loss.
Her family’s courage and Lucy’s innocent faith have touched hearts around the world — a bittersweet reminder of life’s fragility and the deep love that endures.
