Kentucky Church Shooting Claims Lives of Two Women — What We Know

What began as a routine traffic stop near Blue Grass Airport on July 13 turned into a tragic shooting spree. A suspect shot a Kentucky state trooper, carjacked a vehicle, and later opened fire at Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington, killing two women and injuring others before police fatally shot him.

The victims, Christina Combs, 34, a mother of five and nursing student, and Beverly Gumm, 72, were deeply loved. Two men were also injured, one critically, and the trooper is now stable. Authorities believe the shooter may have had a personal connection to someone at the church, though his identity hasn’t been released.

The community is grieving. Fundraisers have been launched for the victims’ families, and local leaders, including Governor Andy Beshear, have expressed both sorrow and support. Once a peaceful sanctuary, the church now stands at the heart of a heartbreaking tragedy as the investigation continues.
