Warning: do not put these in the freezer

Freezer Explosion Injures 5-Year-Old Boy—A Cautionary Tale

In Shanghai, a 5-year-old boy suffered serious facial injuries and needed 38 stitches after a can of soda he had placed in the freezer exploded when opened.

Doctors warn that freezing carbonated drinks is dangerous. The pressure buildup inside the can can cause it to burst unexpectedly, leading to injury.

Items you should never freeze:

  • Carbonated drinks: Pressure can cause cans to explode.

  • Alcoholic drinks: May expand and leak or even explode.

  • Dry ice: Can explode due to rapid expansion in enclosed spaces.

To stay safe, avoid freezing these items—and always use proper storage methods.
