Judge Frank Caprio, lovingly known as “America’s Nicest Judge,” has passed away at 88 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. His family confirmed he died peacefully, surrounded by love.
Caprio became a worldwide symbol of compassion through his TV show Caught in Providence, where he turned routine cases of parking tickets and traffic fines into moments of kindness and humanity. His heartfelt rulings, often captured in viral clips, touched millions and earned him a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2021.
Even in his final hours, Caprio shared gratitude in a video from his hospital bed, asking fans for their prayers and reflecting on a life filled with blessings.
Beyond the courtroom, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His legacy of empathy, humor, and humanity will live on through the countless lives he touched — both inside and far beyond the courtroom.
