On August 15, 2025, a routine mail delivery in Greenfield, IL, turned frightening when a Rottweiler broke through a partially open gate and attacked mail carrier Thomas Reyes, 42.
Witnesses say the dog lunged without warning, leaving Reyes with bite wounds on his arm and leg before neighbors managed to pull the animal away. Paramedics treated him at the scene, and he was later taken to Greenfield General Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
Animal Control has since taken custody of the dog, and its owner may face charges.
The Postal Service issued a reminder urging residents to secure their pets: “This is an unfortunate reminder of the hazards our mail carriers face every day.”
The case is under investigation.
