rince George To Be Separated From Prince William When He Turns 12 This Month Due To Royal Tradition Details

As Prince George approaches his 12th birthday, a major royal protocol is about to kick in: he’ll now be expected to travel separately from his father, Prince William, during official trips.

This long-standing rule is meant to protect the royal line of succession. By keeping heirs apart, the family reduces the risk of losing multiple future monarchs in a single accident.

Former royal pilot Graham Laurie explained that Prince William began flying separately at the same age, with any exceptions needing the monarch’s written permission—a rule that now applies to George as well.

While King Charles III can still grant special approval for joint travel, this shift marks a symbolic step in George’s royal journey, reinforcing his place in the future of the monarchy.
