A British soldier is lucky to be alive after his parachute failed during a training jump over California, sending him crashing through the roof of a bungalow.
The soldier had leapt from 15,000 feet as part of an exercise from Camp Roberts. Instead of landing at the drop zone, he plunged straight into a kitchen, dazed but miraculously not seriously injured.
Neighbor Rose Martin, a nurse, rushed to help. âI was in shock. Who lands like that without a parachute and lives? Itâs a miracle,â she said.
Police confirmed the soldier suffered only moderate injuries and was taken to hospital. No one was inside the home at the time, and damage was limited mostly to the ceiling.
Officials said the mishap was caused by a parachute that failed to fully deploy. All other jumpers landed safely.
